Communication Is The Crux of 'Conscious Compatibility.'

You: Wait, what? We didn’t talk about that. ⠀

Them: Yes, we did. Last week, when we were watching TV....

You: ... ⠀

We’ve all had moments like that. Some are truly unintentional consequences of choosing the wrong time or misunderstating the topic’s importance to your Love. Sometimes, we’re distracted and don’t have the presence of mind to pause and ask to continue the conversation at a better time. And sometimes, things simply slip our minds. I know that for me, my weekly plate is so loaded with logistics and details, it’s a minor miracle if everything falls into place as designed. ⠀

Like the reps in your workout that help build strong muscles and discipline, developing the ability to communicate well with your partner about everyday situational details—even the mundane ones—is a powerful tool to help navigate life’s deeper questions. ⠀ ⠀

Practice being present and aware in day-to-day conversations and make it a habit to over-communicate if you find you are landing repeatedly in frustrating misunderstandings.⠀ ⠀

Some simple tricks that can help work this mental muscle: ⠀ ⠀

⚡️Set aside some QT a couple times a week to review schedules. Make it something to look forward to, with a few fingers of bourbon or some cookies).⠀

⚡️Set up a shared calendar to keep the above in check. We like BusyCal and WeekCal but you can use free apps like Apple’s calendar and Google Calendar too.⠀ ⠀

⚡️ Text real-time updates during a situation in flux, like having to leave work late (along with flirty memes if you can).⠀ ⠀

Most important, assume good intent. Misunderstandings happen to the best of us. Rarely are they intended to be malicious or hurtful. ⠀
